Miguel Maia

Luis Miguel Barbosa Maia ( born April 23, 1971 in Paranhos ) is a former Portuguese volleyball and beach volleyball player.

Career

As Hall volleyball Maia won in the 2000/ 01 season with the SC Espinho the Top Teams Cup. In addition, he was twelve time champion and nine times Cup winners in his homeland.

In the sand Maia graduated in 1994/95 his first tournaments with his longtime partner João Carlos Alves Pereira Brenha and managed at various FIVB tournaments top ten rankings. In the Olympic tournament in 1996 Maia / Brenha reached the semi-finals of the loser's bracket, they lost to the Americans Dodd / Whitmarsh as well as the subsequent match for the bronze medal against the Canadian Child / Heese. The following year they finished 17th at the World Championships in Los Angeles. 1998 in Ostend and 1999 in Moscow, she won her first Open tournaments. At the next World Cup in Marseille they were Thirteenth.

A year later, she missed the Olympic tournament in Sydney with a defeat against the German duo Ahmann / Hager again just the bronze medal. 2001, they were ninth of the World Cup in Klagenfurt and failed at the European Championships in Jesolo a round before the semi-finals of the Swiss Heyer / Egger.
