John II of Pernstein

John of Pernštejna ( czech January Pernštejn; * um 1406, † December 28, 1475 ) was a Moravian nobleman and supporter of the Hussites. Later he was employed by the Bohemian King George of Podiebrad the Lord Chamberlain of the Regional Court Brno and named one of the four governor of Moravia in 1473 from the rival King Matthias Corvinus.

Life

Johann's father Wilhelm / William of Pernštejna († 1422/26 ) was in the service of the Margrave Jobst of which his influential state offices have been transferred. John's mother was William's second wife Agnes / Anežka of pot stone or the third wife Anna von Sternberg.

For the first time occupied Johann is for the year 1427, when he sold along with his father, the abbess of the convent Doubravník, which had been founded by Stephan / Stepan of Medlov, a predecessor of the Lords of Pernštejna, a piece of land. In the same year he was authorized by his father to independently manage its assets. 1429 he participated on the side of the Hussites at the incident in the Saxon Meissen, which was gebranntschatzt and looted. After the death of the Bohemian ruler Sigismund in 1437 rejected John of Pernštejna his son Albert II as the successor and sat down with Hynek Ptáček of Pirkstein for the candidacy of the not yet eleven years of Casimir IV, a son of the Polish king Władysław III. one, however, could not be enforced.

Probably around 1441, the widowed John married in second marriage with Bohunka of Lomnitz. John of Pernštejna who held the office of Oberstkämmerer of the Regional Court Brno from the 1460s, was a leading expert on Moravian provincial law. Although he was loyal to King George of Podiebrad, he moved to his death in 1471 on the side of the anti-king Matthias Corvinus. 1473 he was appointed by the latter to one of four governors in Moravia. About this time occurred more frequently his second son William in the foreground. With its acquisition of the rule Helfenstein John appeared as a witness.

At his death in 1475 John of Pernštejna left his sons and his young widow an extensive assets. At his request, he was buried in the monastery church of Doubravnik. His widow married before 1480 Marquart of Lomnitz and after his death before 1482 Berthold / Pertold of Tworkau.

In the Prague National Library, a Bible manuscript from the year 1471. It is richly decorated with illuminations and contains the coat of arms of John of Pernštejna, suggesting that they arose in his behalf. That is why it is called " Pernštejna Bible" ( Pernštejnská bible ).
