John J. DeGioia

John "Jack" J. DeGioia ( born 1957 ) is an American philosopher, professor and since 2001 president of Georgetown University.

Biography

After schooling, he studied English at Georgetown University and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA English) from. Later he became professor of philosophy and worked for Student Affairs between 1985 and 1992 as dean before he gets awarded the University in 1995 Philosophiae Doctor ( Ph.D.).

In his lectures to DeGioia dealt with topics such as " Ethics and Global Development ," " Human Rights: A Culture in Crisis " and " ways of knowing ".

After he was vice president for operational matters between 1998 and 2001, he was in 2001 as a successor of Leo J. O'Donovan President of Georgetown University and occupied the same position since then from.

DeGioia is not only an honorary member of the John Carroll Society and the American Council on Education (ACE ), but since 2010 a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also a member of the National Commission for UNESCO of the United States.
