John Ritter (congressman)

John Ritter ( born February 6, 1779 Exeter, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, † November 24, 1851 in Reading, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1843 and 1847 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Ritter received only a limited education. He then completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. Later he hit as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1836 he was a member of the Constitutional Convention in Pennsylvania. In the congressional elections of 1842 he was in the ninth constituency of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1843. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1847 two legislative sessions. These were shaped by the events of the Mexican-American war since 1845.

In 1846, John Ritter gave up another candidacy. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he published the German -language newspaper in Reading Eagle. He died on 24 November 1851 in Reading.
