Jonas Hellborg

Jonas Hellborg ( born June 7, 1958 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish jazz bassist.

Hellborg learned as a child, the bass playing and began at the age of sixteen years training in classical and jazz music. In 1981 he was invited to the Montreux Jazz Festival, where Michael Brecker was aware of him, which brought him to New York City. There he met percussionist Kwaku Baah Reebop, with whom he worked until his death in London on the album " Melodies in a Jungle Man 's Head ", which appeared in 1983.

In 1982 Hellborg 's own record label Day Eight, where in 1983 his first solo album "The Bassic Thing" brought out. By Michael J. Smith and Michael Shrieve album " All Our Steps" appeared. During this time, his work with John McLaughlin, who invited him to participate in his Mahavishnu Orchestra began. 1990 started his collaboration with Bill Laswell, with whom he founded the Green Point Recording Studio in New York. Laswell produced Hell Borg's album " The Word" with Tony Williams and a string quartet, on the Hellborg played for the first time developed by Abraham Wechter acoustic bass guitar. On the same instrument Hellborg played a solo album, "The Silent Life".
