Jörg Demus

Jörg Demus ( born December 2, 1928 in St. Pölten, Austria ) is an Austrian pianist and composer.

Life

Demus grew up the son of the art historian Otto Demus and concert violinist Louise Demus. He received his first piano lessons at the age of six and was admitted to the age of eleven to the Vienna Academy of Music, where he studied until 1945, organ, piano, composition and conducting. His first piano recital he gave in 1943 in the Brahms-Saal of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna.

In 1950 he started his international career in London. 1951-53 he moved to Yves Nat to Paris and then to Walter Gieseking to Saarbruecken. In 1956 he received one of the most important awards for pianists, namely the First Prize at the International Piano Competition Ferruccio Busoni in Bolzano, 1970, he received the Jacob Prandtauer Prize for Science and Art of the city of St. Pölten.

As a great musician and teacher, he enjoys worldwide recognition. Demus was especially through its commitment to the renaissance of the fortepiano deserves, with many recordings he employed despite all the technical shortcomings of old original instruments, thus achieving a high degree of authenticity. Demus frequently plays works of romance, it also occurs as an accompanist and chamber music ensembles and, for example, with cellist Maria Kliegel.

For some time, Jörg Demus is working on a CD production " The History of the Piano ", which should include vollbespielte end 100 CDs.
