Rudolf Fischer (musician)

Rudolf Karl Fischer ( born July 13, 1913 in Leipzig, † July 29, 2003 in Leipzig ) was a German pianist, music educator and professor at the Musikhochschule Leipzig.

Fischer was from 1948 to 1973 Rector of the Music Academy in Leipzig. He initiated in 1964 the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition at the Bach Archive Leipzig and was also president until 1973 of this prestigious competition. From 1972 he led the first piano master class in the GDR. In 1973, he received a full professorship. In the personnel and appointment policies he represented the line of the SED.

Fischer was 1968-1974 President of the Geneva " Association Européenne de Conservatoire, Academies de Musique et Music Colleges ", 1974, he was appointed as its Honorary President. In 1982 he became Vice- President of the Johann- Sebastian -Bach - Committee of the GDR.

Rudolf Fischer has performed among others with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Dresden, played a numerous recordings, radio and television and was a member of the jury of many international music competitions. He was also a member of the Zwickau Schumann Society and the New Leipzig Bach Society.

His son is the Piano Professor Johannes Fischer ( * 1936).
