Jörg Huffschmid

Jörg Huffschmid ( born February 19, 1940 in Cologne, † December 5, 2009 in Bremen ) was a German economist. He ran until 2005, the Institute for European Economy, Economic and Social Policy at the University of Bremen and was a founding member of the working group alternative economic policy (Memorandum group).

Career

From 1959 to 1963 Huffschmid studied philosophy and economics in Freiburg im Breisgau, Paris and at the University of Berlin, which finally gave him the degree diploma in economics. In 1967, he completed a doctorate on " The position of the data as a problem of method in the social sciences " as a Doctor of Economic and Social Sciences ( Dr. rer. Pol. ). 1973 appointed him to the University of Bremen as Professor of the Chair of Political Economy and Economic Policy. Together with others he founded in 1975, also known as "Memorandum group " Workgroup alternative economic policy. From 1983 to 1989 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the DKP -affiliated Institute for Marxist Studies and Research ( IMSF ). From 1984 he was for some years a board member of the DKP. In 1995 he was a founding member of the working group on European Economists for Alternative Economic Policy in Europe. Huffschmid was given emeritus status since 1 March 2005.

Effect

2000 was Huffschmid member of the Enquete Commission of the German Bundestag " Globalization of the World Economy - Challenges and Answers". He was co-editor of the political- scientific monthly magazine Sheets for German and international politics. Huffschmid sat on the advisory boards of Science and Peace, the Bremen Foundation for defense conversion, Z. Journal Marxist renewal and anti-globalization network Attac.

Huffschmid was co-author of the annual memoranda of the Working Group alternative economic policy. Several of his students were instrumental in setting up of Attac Germany. One of them is the Green MEP Sven Giegold.

In 2011, the first time the Jörg- Huffschmid Prize was awarded. In thinking of the scientific work and the social and political involvement Jörg Huffschmid have the workgroup alternative economic policy, attac and the Scientific Advisory Board of attac, the EuroMemo group and the Rosa Luxembourg Foundation awarded this prize. First prize winner was Nicola Liebert. The next prize was awarded in 2013 and went to Ingo Stützle and Florian Butollo.
