Jorge Ardila Serrano

Jorge Ardila Serrano ( born September 17, 1925 in Zapatoca, Santander, Colombia, † October 12, 2010 in Bogotá, Colombia) was bishop of Girardot.

Life

Jorge Ardila Serrano studied after visiting the Colegio Santo Tomas and the Seminario Mayor de San Gil (1936-1941) philosophy and theology at the seminary of San Gil (1942-1944) and at the Seminary of Bogotá ( 1944-1948 ). Ardila Serrano received on 17 October 1948, ordained priest in San Gil by Archbishop Angel Maria Ocampo Berrio, Bishop of Socorro and San Gil. From 1952 to 1953 he studied education and spirituality in the seminar La Solitude in Saint- Sulpice, Paris. 1953 to 1954 he studied at the Gregorian University in Rome, a Licentiate in dogmatic theology and from 1954 to 1956 at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome a Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies and from 1956 to 1957 a Pastoral Studies at the Catholic Faculty of Lille, France.

He initially worked in pastoral care in San Gil and chaplain of the Capellán del Colegio de Varones and assistant of Catholic Action in the diocese. From 1958 to 1969 he was a professor, spiritual director and spiritual director and rector of the seminary of San Gil.

In 1969, he was Director of the Department of the faith and morals of the Colombian Episcopal Conference. He was also chaplain of Colegio del Pilar. From 1971 to 1980 Jorge Ardila Serrano was Secretary General of the Colombian Episcopal Conference. On November 15, 1975, he was by Pope Paul VI. appointed Monsignor.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Tisedi at 1980 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Bogotá. He received his episcopal consecration on 30 November 1980, the Archbishop of Bogotá, Aníbal Muñoz Duque Cardinal; Co-consecrators Archbishop Angelo Acerbi were, Apostolic Nuncio to Colombia, and Mario Revollo Bravo, Bishop of Nueva Pamplona. From 1981 to 1988 he was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Bogotá. From 1982 to 1984 he was president of the ecclesiastical court for the beatification process of Ismael Perdomo, Archbishop of Bogotá.

1988 he was appointed the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Girardot. On 15 June 2001, Pope John Paul II held his resignation.

Bishop Ardila Serrano was buried in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary ( Catedral Inmaculado Corazón de María ) of the Diocese of Girardot.
