Mario Revollo Bravo

Mario Cardinal Revollo Bravo ( born June 19, 1919 in Genoa, Italy, † November 3, 1995 in Bogotá, Colombia) was Archbishop of Bogotá.

Life

Mario Revollo Bravo was born the son of the Colombian consul in Italy. He studied in Bogota and Rome compartments Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 31 October 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders. After further studies, he worked from 1948 in the Archdiocese of Bogotá as a school chaplain, lecturer at the seminary and as a church pastor. In addition, from 1949 to 1966 was director of the magazine " El Catolicismo ". During the Eucharistic Congress and the Pope's visit in 1968, Mario Revollo Bravo knew it the job of the media representatives. November 13, 1973 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Thinisa in Numidia and Auxiliary Bishop in Bogotá. He received his episcopal consecration of Archbishop Bogotáer, Aníbal Muñoz Duque Cardinal, on 2 December of the same year. From 1973 to 1978 Mario Revollo Bravo was also vicar general for pastoral ministry in the Archdiocese of Bogotá.

February 28, 1978, he was named Paul VI. Archbishop of Nueva Pamplona. 1984 Pope John Paul II appointed him to head the Archdiocese of Bogotá and also Military Bishop of Colombia. On June 28, 1988, he was elected cardinal priests and added to the College of Cardinals and appointed Titular Bishop of San Bartolomeo all'Isola. The management of the Archdiocese of Bogotá he laid in 1994 due to old age and illness down; the resignation was accepted by Pope John Paul II.

He died on 3 November 1995 in Bogotá and was buried in the local cathedral.
