José Damián Villacorta

José Damián Villacorta Cañas (* 1796 in Zacatecoluca, † June 11, 1860 in Santa Tecla ) was dated 16 February 1830 to December 4, 1830 Supreme Director of the province of El Salvador in the Central American confederation.

Life

His parents were Maria Ignacia de Cañas and Esteban Gabriel de Villacorta. He was married to Francisca de la Cotera. Graduate students at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala in civil law. He was also well versed in canon law. He was a Procer (Avant -garde of the independence movement ) of Central America and deputy in the Constituent Assembly in 1824. He was a member of the Partido Conservador, which were at that time also called servile. He worked out a constitution, which is why he is considered the father of salvadorenischen institutions. He was Secretary of the Constituent Assembly and was appointed prosecutor of the Supreme Court later. He was State Council and Deputy Supreme Director.

From February 16 1830 to 4 December 1830, he was Director Supremo. During his tenure, the convents and monasteries were secularized and the religious orders lost their legal entity. The monasteries in model prisons rebuilt.

His successor as Supreme Director of the province of El Salvador, José María Merino Cornejo y Guevara, was also of the servile, and made 1832 a secession attempt. The president of the Central American Confederation José Francisco Morazán Quezada was then occupied San Salvador, settle the deputies of the servile in Guatemala City and arrested. These deputies also José Damián Villacorta Cañas belonged. In 1835 he was a member and President of the Parliament in Guatemala. In 1840, he did not accept appointment as Director Supremo 1843 and returned back to El Salvador.

For a time he was a professor at the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences at the Universidad de El Salvador ( UES ), then he became vice - rector of the UES.

1851 and 1858 he was President of the Court. He was a founder of the city of San Salvador, in accordance with a law which met the Supreme Court in December 1856.
