José Enrique Gutiérrez Cataluña ( born June 18, 1974 in Valencia ) is a Spanish former road bicycle racer.

Career

Gutierrez could draw attention to himself than he could surprisingly beat all Spanish professionals at the National Elite Championships in the time trial and to secure the title ahead of Joseba Beloki as U-23 driver, particularly in 1997. Then he received the 1998 Spanish cycling team Kelme -Costa Blanca his first contract as a professional racing driver. In his first season he played the Giro d' Italia, which he had to leave, however, after the 18th stage. The UCI Road World Championships 1999 in Treviso, he became world champion in Class U- 23 in the individual time trial with just 1.5 seconds ahead of Michael Rogers.

In 2000, he earned his second Giro d' Italia, in which he could take over the maglia rosa of the overall leader in the meantime, the race but had to retire on the 18th stage.

In September 2004, he then by winning the penultimate stage of the Vuelta a España celebrated one of the greatest successes of his career on the Puerto de Navacerrada, where he reached the summit as a soloist.

At the Giro d' Italia in 2006 and finished third behind Paolo Savoldelli and Bradley McGee in the prologue of Seraing. After the race had returned to Italy, he was also in the following heavier sections for the best drivers, he finished fourth on the seventh stage, the mountain-top finish on the Passo Lanciano on the following day, he finished in third place and thus took over second place in overall behind Ivan Basso. After Gutierrez came in 2006 suspected to be a customer of Eufemiano Fuentes, he was so involved in the Spanish doping scandal drew him to be His team Phonak Cycling Team pulled him then from the racing back and he completed no more bets for the end of the season -resolution team.

For the 2007 season, moving Gutierrez to second-class Swiss racing team LPR and 2009 the team rock racing from the USA, where he achieved in each case no special successes more. José Enrique Gutiérrez ' nicknames are Quique or El Bufalo (English: " The Buffalo "). He is the older brother of José Ignacio Gutiérrez, with whom he shared at Kelme -Costa Blanca, Phonak and LPR was active.
