José Manuel Fuente

José Manuel Fuente Lavandera ( born September 30, 1945 in Limanes; † July 18, 1996 in Oviedo) was a Spanish cyclist.

Its low weight helped him to become one of the greatest climber of his time. From his countrymen he was therefore called El Tarangu. He won four times the Maglia Verde of the Giro d' Italia from 1971 to 1974, the mountain stage of the Vuelta a España in 1972 and the mountain stage of the Tour de Suisse 1973. Besides he won numerous mountain stages in the Tour, the Giro and the Vuelta. Also in the overall classification of the grand tours he was very successful. The Vuelta he won in 1972 and 1974. 1973 he became the first Spaniard, the Tour de Suisse with a lead of 4:45 minutes on Donato Giuliani.
