José Manuel Martínez

José Manuel Martínez ( Martínez José Manuel Fernández, nicknamed " Chema ", born October 22, 1971 in Madrid ) is a Spanish long-distance runner.

Martínez won his first international title when he won the 10,000 -meter run at the Universiade 1999. In 2002, he then won at the European Championships in Munich Dieter Baumann. Four years later he won the silver medal behind January hinge plates at the European Athletics Championships in 2006.

At the World Championships he won over this distance, ranks 19 (1999 in Seville) and 12 (2001 in Edmonton ). At the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004, he was ninth.

His debut on the marathon course was Martínez 2002, when he was third at the Rotterdam Marathon immediately. The same result he reached there in 2003, and the marathon athletics World Championships in Edmonton, he finished 16th place. Also in the next two World Cups he went in the marathon at the start: 2005 in Helsinki he got to the 30th place, and in 2007 in Osaka, he was tenth. Also in 2007 he was second in the Rome Marathon, and the following year he won the Madrid Marathon and came in at number 16 in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Beijing. In a marathon, the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he was the best Europeans eighth in 2:14:04 h at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona 2010, he won in the same discipline behind the superior Röthlin the silver medal.

Martínez is 1,76 m tall and weighs 62 kg. He is married to hockey player Nuria Moreno.
