Josef Boumedienne ( born January 12, 1978 in Stockholm ) is a Finnish- Swedish ice hockey player, was active throughout his career for the New Jersey Devils, Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League as well as for several top European clubs Eishockeyxligan. Career

Josef Boumedienne began his career as a hockey player at Huddinge IK, for which he was active until 1996. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1996 in the fourth round as a total of 91 players from the New Jersey Devils. First, however, the defender played two seasons long for Södertälje SK of the Swedish Elitserien and Tappara Tampere of the Finnish SM- liiga. Before the season 2000/ 01 Boumedienne was in the squad of New Jersey's farm team, the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League added. The following season he made ​​his debut in the National Hockey League for the Devils, before he was released to the Tampa Bay Lightning during the season.

From 2002 to 2004 Boumedienne stood by the Washington Capitals under contract, before he returned for the 2004/ 05 season to Europe, where he played in Sweden for Brynäs IF and in Finland for Kärpät Oulu, where he won the Finnish championship with Kärpät. After one season with the ZSC Lions of the Swiss National League A and his former Swedish club Södertälje SK Boumedienne returned for the season 2006/ 07 to Kärpät Oulu, where he was with the team for the second time in his career Finnish champion.

It was followed by a year with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, following which he was taken on August 18, 2008 by the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL as a free agent contract in which, however, he could not prevail. Since he only played for their farm team, the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, he returned during the season back for the third time Kärpät Oulu. In June 2009 he was taken from the HC Dinamo Minsk of the KHL contract and completed 17 KHL games for Dinamo, before his contract was dissolved. 5 January 2010 he finally took the EV train from the Swiss National League A contract in which he remained until the end of the season. For the season 2010/11 he moved to Djurgårdens IF of the Elitserien, for whom he played until January 2012. Subsequently, he was active for Jokerit in the SM- liiga and finished with the club third place in the Championship 2011/12.

End May 2012 Boumedienne received a contract with the new KHL participants HC Slovan Bratislava, for whom he played until mid-December of this year. Then he was out of contract, before he returned to Kärpät mid-January 2013.

After the end of the 2012/13 season he finished his career and was taken as the European Scout of the Columbus Blue Jackets under contract.

Internationally

For Sweden Boumedienne took part in the U18 European Junior Championships in 1996 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 1997 and 1998. In the Under-18 European Championship 1996, he won the bronze medal.

In the senior level, he came in three international matches during the 2005/ 06 season are used.
