Josef von Halban

Josef von Halban (formerly Blumenstock, born October 10, 1870 in Vienna, † April 23, 1937 in Vienna ) was an Austrian, both anatomically and physiologically interested gynecologist Jewish origin.

Many years he was assistant to the obstetric clinic Schauta, then worked at the Pasteur Institute in Paris. In 1893, he was Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Vienna, he received his doctorate in 1894.

In 1909 he became associate professor at the University of Vienna, since 1910 he was Director of Gynecologic Department of the Hospital Wieden. In 1917 he was ennobled.

Josef Halban published several gynecological treatises, most notably the great manual of biology and pathology of the woman (Berlin 1924-1929, together with Ludwig Seitz ); next to it, for example, still: ovarian and menstrual (1901 ); Topography of the female uterus (1901, with Julius Tandler ); Gynecological surgery teaching ( 1932).

He was married with the short chamber singer Selma. From this marriage two children were born, son George and daughter Dési of Halban - Kurz. She was also a singer and married his first wife, the art dealer Jacques Goudstikker.
