Joseph Augustine Di Noia

Joseph Augustine Di Noia OP ( * July 10, 1943 in New York City, USA ) is a Curia, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Augustine Di Noia attended Cardinal Hayes High School in New York City and Providence College in Providence. He joined the Congregation of the Dominicans on August 4, 1964. 1966 acquired Di Noia at St. Stephen 's College in Dover, Massachusetts, a Licentiate in Philosophy. On June 4, 1970, he received the sacrament of Holy Orders. Di Noia 1971 at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, DC magna cum laude, earned his doctorate in theology. In 1980 he received his doctorate at Yale University as a doctor of philosophy.

In the following years, Augustine Di Noia served as pastor. In 1984 he became editor of The Thomist. Di Noia 1991 professor of Catholic theology at the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception of the Dominican House of Studies. In 1993 he became Managing Director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral of the Bishops' Conference of the United States of America. On April 4, 2002, Pope John Paul II called for the Under Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.

On 16 June 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Oregon City and appointed him as Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments. He received his episcopal consecration on 11 July 2009, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal William Joseph Levada; Co-consecrators were Archbishop Emeritus of Louisville, Thomas Cajetan Kelly OP, and the Archbishop of Washington, Donald Wuerl. Augustine Di Noia is the motto chose In oboedientia veritatis ( " The truth obedient "), which comes from the first letter of Peter ( 1 Peter 1:22 EU).

On 26 June 2012, he was called by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Vice - President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei. He should also coordinate on behalf of the then Prefect of the CDF, Cardinal William Joseph Levada, who acts as the president of " Ecclesia Dei ", the unification efforts with the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X..
