Joshua Oppenheimer

Joshua Lincoln Oppenheimer ( born September 23, 1974 in Austin, Texas, USA) is an American film director.

Life

Oppenheimer studied film at Harvard University and at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. In several of his documentaries he deals with the aftermath of the massacre in Indonesia mid-1960s apart. Thus, in The Act of Killing provide former members of the killing commands by their actions scenic. The film was then shown premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and was also in Toronto and at the Berlinale. As co-producers of Werner Herzog and Errol Morris Oppenheimer could win. For safety reasons, a majority of the crew members is not mentioned in the credits.

Joshua Oppenheimer is also scientifically alongside his work as a filmmaker and in this context the " Genocide and genre " project of the British Arts and Humanities Research Council involved.
