Juan Antonio Pérez Bonalde

Juan Antonio Pérez Bonalde (* 1846 in Caracas, † 1892 in La Guaira ) was a Venezuelan poet and translator.

Life

Juan Antonio Pérez Bonalde was born in Caracas. His family had many problems with the Venezuelan government, therefore lived Pérez Bonalde many years in exile. Later Pérez Bonalde traveled to the U.S., Puerto Rico, Europe, Asia and Africa because he worked as a trader.

The poem Vuelta a la Patria is about his return to Venezuela, and is his most famous poem.

Premature lost Pérez Bonalde a daughter. He wrote the elegiac poem Flor in memory of her.

Destroyed by the morphine, Juan Antonio Pérez Bonalde died 1892 in La Guaira.

Artistic creation

Pérez Bonalde was a romantic poet. But many people think that Pérez Bonalde was also a precursor of modernism.

Also translated Pérez Bonalde many works of German, English, French, Danish, Portuguese, Italian and Chinese writers into Spanish. The works of Heine and The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe were works that have been translated by Pérez Bonalde.
