Juf

Juf is a fraction of the Swiss valley community Avers in the canton of Grisons. It is 2,126 m above sea level. M., which is above the tree line. Juf is considered the highest permanently inhabited settlement in Switzerland and Europe.

Settlement

In juf about 30 inhabitants from six Walser families. In addition to some houses there is an inn, several apartments, a dormitory and a post office.

Through its exceptional high altitude, the village is often the starting point for biking and hiking tours to the passes Septimer, Spliigen, Julier and San Bernardino, Maloja, Bivio or to Bergell. In winter juf is the starting point for ski tours. In the valley there are up to two ski lifts at Juppa no tourist facilities. Even before high-voltage lines, the valley was spared, they may use to speak of generally intact agricultural landscape.

Traffic

Juf is the end of today's Averser main road and thus of motorized transport, and the former, partially preserved and reconstructed Old Averserstrasse that serves as a hiking trail. Juf is eight times served by the postal bus daily.
