Juliusz Nowina-Sokolnicki

Juliusz Nowina -Sokol Nicki ( born December 18, 1920 in Pinsk, † August 17, 2009 in Colchester ) was a Polish politician of the former Polish Government in Exile in London.

Activities as politicians in exile

Nowina -Sokol Nicki was after 1945 politician of the London government in exile. After their breakup in 1954 into two competing camps, he supported the president in exile August Zaleski against the Tripartite.

Upon the death of August Zaleski in 1972, he claimed to be appointed by the latter as successor and laid claim to the presidency in exile up to the presidential elections in 1990 after the People's Republic of Poland. The majority of Poles abroad recognized, however, upon the death of August Zaleski Stanisław Ostrowski as President -in-exile and felt August Zaleski claims as illegal.

Juliusz Nowina -Sokol Nicki was of noble birth, but without a title. A former representative of the Sokol Nicki family led the title of count, but this line died out. Since the beginning of 1970 is titled Nowina -Sokol Nicki Graf ( Count).

As exiled president, he founded the old Polish St. Stanislaus new and was its Grand Master. This religious foundation was not recognized by the Polish governments after 1990. 1990 in Poland Santa Stanislaus with Marek Kwiatkowski was reactivated as Grand Master.
