Jürgen Bertow

Jürgen Bertow (* April 21, 1950 in Berlin ) is a former rower from the GDR. In 1974 he became world champion in the quadruple sculls.

Bertow rowed for the SC Dynamo Berlin. He was second in the 1968 Junior World Championships in One. 1973 and 1974, won the league title Bertow the GDR in the quadruple sculls. 1974 won Dreifke Joachim Götz Draeger, Rüdiger Reiche and Jürgen Bertow at the World Championships on the Rotsee near Lucerne. Overall, the GDR in six out of eight Olympic boat classes of the men won the title at the 1974 World Cup. 1975 changed Dreifke and Bertow in the double sculls. After winning the East German league title they occupied at the World Championships in Nottingham second behind the Norwegian brothers Alf and Frank Hansen. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal Bertow came along with Hans -Ulrich Schmied, who both won the bronze medal. 1978 won Jürgen Bertow together with Olaf minor again at the East German championship.

Bertow had after a completed mason is studying civil engineering and founded in the 1980s, a private construction work. 1974 and 1976 he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
