K'inich Ahkal Mo' Naab' III

K'inich Ahkal Mo ' Nahb III. (* September 13 678; † after 736 ) was a ruler ( Ajaw ) of the Mayan city of Palenque. He ascended the throne on December 30, 721

Origin and family

K'inich Ahkal Mo ' Nahb III. was on September 13, 678 ( Long Count 9.12.6.5.8, Calendar Round 3 Lamat 6 Sak ), the son of Prince Chan Tiwol Mat; born and his wife Kinuw (* 647 † 680). He was thus a grandson of K'inich Janaab Pakal I ( * 603, † 683 ), the most important ruler of Palenque. He was married to Nik Men. From the marriage of the future ruler K'inich K'uk ' Bahlam II emerged. The immediate successor of K'inich Ahkal Mo ' Nahb III. , K'inich Janaab Pakal II, was probably his brother.

Reign

K'inich Ahkal Mo ' Nahb III. came to power after his uncle K'inich K'an Joy Chitam II (* 644, † by 721? ) had died, apparently leaving no male heirs. His enthronement took place on December 30, 721 ( 9.14.10.4.2, 9 Ik ' 5 K'ayab ). During his reign there were several military conflicts in which a man named Chak Suutz distinguished himself ' as a commander. The first took place in 723 and ended with the capture of three rival nobles. The second followed in the year 725 and was directed against a place called K'ina ', probably belonged to the sphere of influence of Piedras Negras. Here, a high dignitary was captured from Piedras Negras. 729 followed by two more campaigns against unknown places, one of them in the course of a star war.

Construction

The construction of K'inich Ahkal Mo ' Nahb III. focused on the south-east of Palenque. South of the Cross Group, he left the Temple XVIII, XVIIIa, XIX and XXI build. Especially the Temple XIX and XXI have long inscriptions. Temple XIX was inaugurated in 734 and passed into the possession of a high dignitary entitled yajaw k'ahk ' ( Lord of Fire ).
