Kachanivka

Katschaniwka (Ukrainian Качанівка; Russian Качановка / Kachanovka ) is a village founded in 1770 in the Ukrainian Chernihiv Oblast with about 50 inhabitants ( 2001).

Geography

Katschaniwka is located 27 km east of Rajonzentrums Itschnja in Rajon Itschnja and belongs to the district municipality of the village located 2 km north Petruschiwka ( Петрушівка ). The Oblastzentrum Chernihiv located 170 km north-west and Kiev is located 180 km south-west of Katschaniwka.

Castle Tarnowski

The biggest attraction of the village is the neoclassical residence of the Governor General of Ukraine under Empress Catherine II, Peter Rumyantsev Sadunaiski. ,

The Palast50.836706132.6552296 was built according to plans by Karl Blank [Note 1] in the 1770s.

After the son Pyotr 's, Nikolai Rumyantsev died, the estate was in the possession of the noble family Tarnowski. Among the visitors of the castle in the 19th century included, among others, Nikolai Gogol, Taras Shevchenko, Ilya Repin, Mikhail Vrubel, and Mikhail Glinka.

Although the Bolsheviks nationalized the palace and first as a penal colony and used later as a tuberculosis hospital, the mansion, the English park and several outbuildings remained very well maintained and have been declared 1981 to a historical and cultural reserve and in 2001 a National Reserve.
