Kagithane is the capital of the district of the Turkish province of İstanbul as well as a district on the European side of İstanbul. According to the last census Kağıthane had 415 130 inhabitants ( as of December 2008).

History

Kagithane was in the 17th century a preferred excursion and hunting grounds of the Sultan, probably because you could easily reach it by boat across the Golden Horn. The eponymous brook was a parade route for the typical local boats (Turkish kayik ). During the era of the Tulip Era, which lasted from 1718 to 1730, Kağıthane was a popular place of İstanbul. During this time, approximately 100 buildings / villas (Turkish Köşk ) were built, of which the name derives kiosk. The pre- war empire devoted to the growing tulips.

This era, which was marked by luxury and ostentation, ended by the Patrona Halil rebellion - which bears the name of its author Patrona Halil. In this uprising the grand villas were largely destroyed in Kagithane. The tulip farms migrated shortly thereafter to Holland. The demise of the place was sealed by industrialization in the 20th century.
