Kaiavere ( German Kayafer ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Tabivere ( Tabivere vald ) in the Estonian county Jõgevamaa.

Location and description

Kaiavere has 54 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2009). The village is situated 26 km north-west of the second largest Estonian town of Tartu ( Dorpat ).

To Kaiavere part of the 2.5 km ² Kaiavere järv ( Kayferscher lake). By the lake, the river flows nurse ( nurse Jõgi ). It connects the lake with the Kaiavere Elistvere Lake (1.75; km ²).

History

The village was first mentioned in records in 1473 under the name Kayver. For 1512, the yard is Kayfer occupied. He belonged temporarily to the nunnery of Tartu. From this period also dates the historical name of nuns Hoff.

1627 was the manor of Kaiavere privately owned. Last owner of the estate prior to the expropriation of part of the Estonian land reform of 1919 was the aristocratic Baltic German family of lions star.

The most famous son of the town is August Philipp Clare (1790-1850), one of the first visual artist of Estonian origin.
