History and Structure

The Kaiserin - Augusta-Straße was created as part of the Südverlängerung of Tempelhof branch of the North-South railway to Alt -Marie village. The planning of this goes back to the Weimar Republic, the construction of this section of line but was begun in 1961. As one of the first subway stations in Berlin was this station - designed by Rainer G. Rümmler - as well as most other stations at the same time incurred the southern North-South line and the U7.

Rümmler was guided by Bruno Grimmeks design for the underground station Alt -Tempelhof and designed a 110 meters long and seven meters wide central platform with two approaches to Albrecht Street to the north and to the eponymous Empress Augusta Street in the south. The walls behind the tracks were covered with small-scale dark green ceramic tiles, the support columns were tiled in white. The floor is paved. After the ceramic cladding of the rear track walls had dissolved over time, the walls were painted dark green.

In 1991, the station received a direct access to the overlying Karstadt department store. Through an elevator system to the temple Damm in the northern area of accessibility of the station is guaranteed since 18 March 2011. The cost of building the elevator amounted to 900,000 euros. In 2013 a major overhaul of the station is planned.
