Kaiu Parish

Kaiu ( German: Kay ) is a rural municipality in the Estonian county Rapla with an area of 261 km ². It has 1630 inhabitants ( 2005). Kaiu located approximately 60 km from Tallinn and 25 km from Rapla away.

Kaiu was first mentioned in 1241 and belonged to 1561 the convent of Cistercians of Tallinn. In addition to the main town Kaiu belong to the rural community of today, the villages Kuimetsa, Karitsa, Kasvandu, Oblu, Põlliku, Suurekivi, Tamsi, Tolla, Toomja, Vahastu, Vana- Kaiu and Vaopere.
