Kamikawa Subprefecture

Kamikawa (Jap.上 川 総 合 振兴 局, Kamikawa- sogo - Shinko - kyoku ) is a sub-prefecture of Hokkaido Prefecture. The name is derived from Kamikawa no hitobito no shuraku (川上 の 人 々 の 集落, dt "settlement of people from the upper reaches "), a translation into Japanese of the Ainu Peni Unguri Kotan.
