Kandahar Province

Kandahar ( Dari قندهار, DMG Qandahar; Pashtun کندهار ) is a province of Afghanistan, located in the southern part of the country. It has 1,070,000 inhabitants. The provincial capital is also called Kandahar.

Geography

The south of the city of Kandahar province situated districts are mostly covered by the eastern part of the desert Registan. Consisting of reddish sand dunes and interspersed with rock and clay formations desert is very sparsely populated by nomadic Baluch and Pashtuns.

War on Terror

The Kandahar province is a stronghold of the radical Islamic Taliban and there are regular clashes between Afghan and NATO forces on the one hand and the Taliban and warlords on the other side. The province is measured by the number of NATO soldiers killed in second place. To date ( October 2012 ) have fallen 500 foreign soldiers in Kandahar, only in the neighboring province of Helmand, there are 897 more soldiers.
