Kangaroo River (Shoalhaven)

Hampden Bridge over the Kangaroo River in Kangaroo Valley

The Kangaroo River is a small river in the southeast of the Australian state of New South Wales. It rises in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales and flows into the Shoalhaven River.

The river rises in Budderoo National Park, about 3 kilometers north- west of the Illawarra Lookout. It first flows in a northwesterly direction to the Carrington Falls, where it breaks through the western boundary of the Budderoo Plateau. The Kangaroo River turns his run then southwest and flows through the settlement Upper Kangaroo Valley and the town of Kangaroo Valley in the Morton National Park. There, the river flows into Lake Yarrunga, an artificial lake formed by the River Shoalhaven. Overall, the river is about 47 km long.

In the small town of Kangaroo Valley, the historic Hampden Bridge spans the river.
