Kangilinnguit

Kangilinnguit (Danish Grønnedal ) on Arsukfjord is a town in the south of Greenland in the municipality Sermersooq.

Until the structural reform in 2009 Kangilinnguit was the capital of the autonomous community Ivittuut.

The village has about 175 inhabitants, including 150 military personnel. It is the base of the Greenland Command of the Danish Navy ( Grønlands command ) and fisheries inspection. The site was created in 1943 by the Americans and went over to Denmark in 1951. A six- kilometer-long gravel road connects Kangilinnguit with the largely abandoned mining town Ivittuut, in the otherwise roadless Greenland a special feature.

The area is ideal for nature lovers walks through the fauna as well as observations of birds ( eagles ) and musk oxen. 90 different minerals found in the region. Off the coast there are seals and whales.

There is a helicopter connection to Narsarsuaq and a weekly shipping to Paamiut.
