Kankaanpää

Kankaanpää [ kɑŋkɑ ː m ˌ PAE ː ] is a town with 11,962 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the west of Finland. It is located about 55 km northeast of the port city of Pori in the landscape Satakunta.

The first known settlers in what is now Kankaanpää was a certain Akar Olav Kontti, which in 1560 named after him Oukari farm built here, which still exists today and is inhabited by his descendants. The settlement grew whether their location on Kyrönkankaantie, the old main road from Pori inland rapidly approaching. In the 19th century, won only agriculture but also forestry in importance; many forests in the region were cleared to meet needs of the shipyards in Pori. Furthermore, Kankaanpää developed into a center of the brick kiln; unlike in most other Finnish places therefore outweigh brick compared to wooden houses. The official buildings were built more recently, in line with this tradition of brick. In addition to the construction industry today is mainly the textile industry of importance.

The first related to the parish Ikaalinen settlement was in 1759 independently as a church community, the classicist parish church was built in 1834-39 by Carl Ludwig Engel. As a municipality Kankaanpää in 1865 independently, the city rights it has since 1972. Besides the Kirchdorf Kankaanpää to the municipality includes the villages of Ala- Honkajoki, Jämiänkeidas, Karhoismaja, Karhusaari, Korvaluoma, Kyynärjärvi, Leppäruhka, Luomajärvi, Niinisalo, Taulunoja, Venesjärvi, Veneskoski, Verttuu, Vihteljärvi, Vihusaari and Vuorenmaa.

The place Niinisalo is one of the largest troops of Finland Location of importance. 5,000 recruits are trained at the barracks stationed here 400 -strong artillery brigade annually, even the Finnish peacekeepers are here prepared for their use abroad.
