Karl Hartwig Gregor von Meusebach

Karl Hartwig Gregor Freiherr von Meusebach ( pseudonyms: Alban, Mark Hüpfinsholz ) (* June 6, 1781 in Voigtstedt; † August 22, 1847 in Geltow ) was a German jurist, literary scholars and collectors.

Life

He studied at Göttingen and Leipzig, joined in 1803 as a firm Assessor to Dillenburg in the Prussian civil service, from which he retired as president of the Rhenish Court of Cassation in 1842. He was a close friend of the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm and promoted young scientists and writers, among others, Heinrich Hoffmann von Faller life. He was an expert on German literature and collected valuable prints by Martin Luther in the 19th century. Collection focused on the literature of the 17th century and the German hymn. His library was purchased in 1849 by the Prussian government, and placed in the Royal Library in Berlin.
