Karşıyaka (on German counter- shore or Opposite bank) is a district in the Turkish province of Izmir and at the same time a municipality of Büyükşehir Belediyesi ( city municipality ) Izmir.

Karşıyaka is located northwest of the city center of Izmir on the north shore of the Gulf of Smyrna ( İzmir Körfezi ). The county is bordered on the east by Bayraklı and Bornova, to the north and to the west menemen Çiğli. To the south lies the coast of the Gulf.
