Katagory V is an American Power and progressive metal band from Salt Lake City, Utah, which was founded in 1999.

History

The band was founded in early 1999 by bassist Dustin Mitchell and guitarist Curtis Morrell. A short time later came drummer Matt Suiter and guitarist Ryan Taylor to fill. Together, the members worked on new songs, while also old material from the former band members has been processed. Remote end of the year was singer Lynn Allers to the band and thus completed the occupation. From late 2000 to early 2001 the band recorded their debut album in the Streamline Studios under the direction of Curtis Morrell. In early 2001, the band released the EP Present Day, which included five songs. Thus, the band reached a deal with Nightmare Records, so Present Day was published as an album, the already well-known in addition to the five songs, five more contained.

In 2002, the band worked on new songs. Meanwhile, guitarist Ryan Taylor, the band, so the band was only vierköpfig. The recordings took place in the autumn of 2002 until early 2003, with Morrell grossed all the guitar tracks. In January 2003, when the shots were almost finished, Trevor Asire came as second guitarist for the band. In spring, the band finished the recordings and signed a deal with Metal Ages Records, while they held concerts together with Meliah Rage and Nasty Savage. In addition, the band also played on the ProgPower USA. Although the work was completed for the second album already since July 2003, it was published in January 2004 under the name A New Breed of Rebellion. In December, the band had separated again by Trevor Asire. After the release of the album Marc Hanson came as the new guitarist for the band. The rest of 2004, spent the groups with live performances and writing new songs. From the end of the year until the beginning of 2005, the band with producer Mike Fowkes went into the studio to record the album The Rising Anger. The work was completed in the summer. After the album was completed, the band played several concerts, as well as on the Monsters of Metal with bands like Helstar and Agent Steel, with guitarist Geoff Gayer Leather Wolf played together with the band.

In 2006 the band signed a deal with Nightmare Records and released their next album The Rising Anger on April 25. Following the publication already started work on the next album. The band then played a concert in Las Vegas with Leather Wolf, before they went into the studio to record the album Hymns of Dissension in early 2007. After the recordings were completed in the spring, gigs followed, along with bands like Vicious Rumors and Agent Steel. The Rising Anger was released on Nightmare Records and in Europe at Burning Star Records. In January 2008, singer Lynn Allers and guitarist Marc Hanson left the band. In June, Al Rybka came as a new singer to fill. In addition, the band played concerts together with Lydian Sea and Mindwarp Chamber. Shortly after these performances left drummer Matt Suiter the band in October. While the band was looking for a replacement for Suiter, began work on the next album. In January 2009, bassist Dustin Mitchell announced that both guitarists Curtis Morrell and Mike Thirot, who was only a short time before joining the band, had left the band. The new album was already almost finished, but Morrell had taken half of the songs with them, so for now the album could not be completed. As a new drummer Matt " Bizzaro " Lefevre joined the band. The recordings for the new album took place in Mitchell's basement studio. In May 2009, the new lineup of the band was announced. In addition to bassist Mitchell, the band now consisted of singer Al Rybka, drummer Lefevre and guitarist Darrin Goodman and Kris Krompel. In summer 2009, the band recorded some demos for the new album. In December Darrin Goodman left the band and was replaced by Marc Hanson, who returned to the band. In January 2010, the band held several concerts and announced that the new album Resurrect the Insurgence she meant. The recordings for this purpose began in April 2010.

Style

The band plays progressive power metal and can be compared to bands like Fates Warning and Psychotic Waltz.
