Kävlinge

Kävlinge [ ̌cɛ vliŋə ː ] is a village ( tätort ) in the southern Swedish province of Skåne län and capital of the municipality of the same name.

The settlement was probably located here because of a flat spot in the river Kävlingeån. In its vicinity is the 1676 Swedish troops rallied a bit later, beating against the Danes at the Battle of Lund. Later in the same place was a bridge. Kävlinge was only minority city ( Linköping ) and at the local government reform of 1971 capital of the municipality, which was merged with the former rural community Löddeköpinge.

Kävlinge was and is an important railway junction. First, the line was to Malmö, which was opened in 1886. In the same year a partial route to Lund and in 1893 the line was opened to Landskrona. After 1906 lines created after Sjöbo and Bärsebäckshamn, but which was shut down in 1950 because they proved to be not worthwhile.

In April 1996, a train derailed in Kävlinge with ammonia cars. Therefore, about 9,000 people had to be evacuated, which was one of the largest evacuations in Sweden in modern times.
