Keith Sutton (bishop)

Keith Norman Sutton ( born June 23, 1934) is a British bishop of the Church of England.

Life

After his education at Jesus College in Cambridge, he was initially 1978 to 1984 Bishop of Kingston upon Thames. After that, he was until 2003 the 97th Bishop of Lichfield. He is married to Jean Sutton and has 4 children.

Professional career

From 1968 to 1973 he taught at Bishop Tucker Theological College in Mukono, Uganda, today a part of the Uganda Christian University. From 1962 to 1967 he was Chaplain of St John's College, Cambridge. He was from 1973 to 1978 Principal of Ridley Hall, and from 1978 to 1984 Bishop of Kingston upon Thames. In July 1985, Sutton was sent by the Archbishop of Canterbury as part of a special mission to South Africa to support Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was harassed by the South African Regieurung. He sat down in Cornwall to rest and served as Honorary Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Truro and Exeter.

House of Lords

From 1989 to 2003 Sutton was as a spiritual Lord Member of the House of Lords.
