Kernmünsterland

The core Münster is a about 2700 km ² comprehensive nature main spatial unit in the center of the main unit group Westphalian Bay and the historical cathedral of the country and in North Rhine Westphalia. It is surrounded to the west, north and east of the sandy landscapes of the West and Ostmünsterlandes, while in the south bordering the Lösslandschaften Hellweg Börden and Emscherland. Geologically it is distinguished by pending or hardly superimposed Upper Cretaceous strata clearly from the adjacent landscapes from.

The core Munsterland is roughly bounded by the valley of the lip in the south and that of the Ems in the northeast, where the Lippetal is expected for core Münster country Emstal but for Ostmünsterland. It is the west bounded by the ridges tree mountains (up to 188 m) and Schöppinger back ( to 158 m) in the northwest and the Halterner mountains (up to 154 m - Hohe Mark, Borkenberge and Haard ) in the southwest, with tree mountain and Schöppinger back added to the core Munsterland be that Halterner mountains, however, the Westmünsterland. Another ridge include the Beckumer mountains (up to 174 m) in the southeast to the main unit.
