Ketoprofen, known under trade names such Fastum Gel ® and Spondylon ®, is an analgesic drug from the group of acidic, non - opioid analgesics.
Areas of application
Ketoprofen is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of pain and inflammation in acute attacks wear -related joint and spine diseases ( osteoarthritis ), and in acute and chronic joint inflammation ( arthritis ), especially rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory rheumatic diseases of the spine such as ankylosing spondylitis.
Effect
Ketoprofen inhibits the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting the function of the key enzyme cyclooxygenase. Clinical studies have demonstrated the different activity of the two enantiomers [( R)-form and (S )-form ].
Side effects
Like all acidic antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic analgesics non-acid is poorly tolerated in the gastrointestinal tract ketoprofen. Nausea and vomiting are therefore the most common side effects. At least since 1995 photosensitization is known.
Contraindication
Ketoprofen is contraindicated in severe liver and kidney disease.
Interaction
