Khaibar-1

Khaibar -1 (Arabic خيبر -1 Khaibar -1, DMG Haibar -1 ) is an artillery rocket that was used by the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon War in 2006 to attack towns in northern Israel. The name of the missile was first used on 28 July 2006 by Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah in a speech in the Lebanese Hezbollah affiliated TV station al -Manar. The missile was fired at the city of Afula in Haifa.

On August 2, 2006 Khaibar -1 rockets hit the Israeli city Bet Shean, about 70 km south of the Lebanese border. It was at the time the vorgedrungene most to Israel Hezbollah missile. On 4 August 2006 struck Khaibar -1 rockets at Hadera.

The IDF claims that the Khaibar - 1 rocket is a renamed Fajr -5 or Fajr -3 Iranian production. According to reports, the destructive power of the Khaibar - 1 rocket (around 100 kg explosives ) and the range is four times greater than that of Katyusha rockets, the previous standard Hezbollah missile.

The name of the rocket will most likely reference to the Battle of Khaybar in the year 629 between Muhammad and his followers against the Jews living in Khaybar, an oasis, which is 150 kilometers from Medina, in the region of Hejaz in the western part the Arabian Peninsula, which is considered to belong since 1926 to Saudi Arabia. The battle ended with Muhammad's victory over the Jews. Some observers think that the reference is intended to the Battle of Khaybar by Hezbollah as propaganda to achieve a psychological effect on the Israelis.
