Khong Chiam District

Amphoe Khong Chiam ( Thai: อำเภอ โขงเจียม ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the eastern province of Ubon Ratchathani. The Ubon Ratchathani Province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, the so-called Isaan.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from the south clockwise): Amphoe Sirindhorn which, Phibun Mangsahan and Si Mueang May, the province Ubon Ratchathani. To the east, on the opposite bank of the Mekong River are the provinces of Lao Salavan and Champasak.

The controversial Pak Mun Dam is located in the county. It dams the Maenam Mun ( Mun River ) just before its confluence with the Mekong.

History

Khong Chiam was formerly the central district ( Khwaeng ) the city ( Mueang ) Khong Chiam. On 1 January 1957, the three tambon Khong Chiam, Huai Yang and Pho Khong Chiam of sound were separated at the sub-district ( King Amphoe ) Ban Dan to create. Ban Dan got on 11 December 1959 full Amphoe status.

Since the historic center of Mueang Khong Chiam was here, Ban Dan was renamed on September 14, 1971 in Khong Chiam, Khong Chiam district during the previous Si Mueang in May, it was renamed.

Attractions

  • National Parks: Kaeng Tana National Park - The 80- square kilometer park was opened on 13 July 1981 as 31 national park of Thailand. It comprises the area south of the confluence of the Mun River and Mekong River down to the Laotian border. Sights are high cliffs overlooking the Mekong and Laos, the Tana rapids in the Mun and several waterfalls.
  • National Park Pha Taem - The 140- square kilometer park was opened on 31 December 1991. It is located about 20 km north of the district capital along the western bank of the Mekong. Worth seeing is the phase Taem - cliff, which allows a wide view of the Mekong. Are the prehistoric rock carvings, whose age is estimated to 3000-4000 years on the rock faces of cliffs.

Administrative units

Amphoe Khong Chiam is ( tambon) divided into five municipalities, which in turn in 50 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

There is a small town ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Ban Dan ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน ด่าน ), consisting of parts of the tambon Khong Chiam.

There are in addition five - Tambon administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).
