Khotkovo

Khotkovo (Russian Хотьково ) is a town with 21,505 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in Russia in the Moscow Oblast. It is located 60 km north-east of Moscow and 10 km south of the city Sergiev Posad.

History

Khotkovo revolves around the founded in 1308 Chotkow Orthodox Monastery of the Intercession Intercession (Russian Покровский Хотьков монастырь ), which exists today as a nunnery. The times to the nearby Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius monastery belonging counted the late 19th century some 280 inhabitants, early 20th century, a school and a hospital was established there.

1862 was built near the monastery a railway station on the construction of the line from Moscow to Sergiev Posad ( this route was later extended up to Yaroslavl and integrated into the Trans-Siberian Railway ). Around the station itself formed a settlement that emerged in the 1930s, there are some industries. In 1949 the town was the city state. The monastery was disbanded in the early 1920 's by the communist authorities, and in 1989 the Russian Orthodox Church returned.

Traffic

The Khotkovo station on the Trans-Siberian Railway is today breakpoint by local trains from Yaroslavsky station in Moscow from as far as Sergiev Posad and Alexandrov. The nearest highway is the Yaroslavl highway, a stretch of the highway M8.
