King's College Budo

Budo, Uganda

The King's College is a secondary school in Budo in Mpigi district near Kampala in Uganda. She teaches students aged 13 to 19 years and is the most prestigious school in the East African country. Language of instruction is English, Luganda, the language of the country part of Buganda in Uganda, is taught as an additional subject. The school motto is " Gakyali Mabaga " ( Luganda for this is only the beginning ).

History

King's College was founded on March 29, 1906 by Henry Walter Weatherhead, an Anglican priest of the Church Missionary Society ( CMS), first established as King's High School. With financial support from the Diocese of Namirembe Bishop Alfred Tucker Weatherhead could initially give 21 Ugandan boy. At the same time a corresponding school for girls was established by Gayaza High School. The school was built on the Budo hill which is the traditional place of coronation of the Kabaka of Buganda. Buganda Prime Minister Apolo Kagwa was acclaimed a bicycle for the best graduates of the school.

While initially only offspring of buga Indian aristocracy were trained, the school opened soon also for ordinary citizens. In 1922 it was renamed King's High School in King 's College. For the first time in 1933 and six girls taught Budo which was one of the first co-educational schools in Uganda.

Today, the number of students is about 1200, they are taught by about 70 teachers.

There is a partnership with the school Augarten in Vienna.
