Kirchberg, Bern

Kirchberg ( berndt. Chiupberg ) is a municipality in the administrative district of Emmental in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. It is located about 24 km northeast of the city of Bern.

History

The name of the located along the Emme village dates from the 1506 -built church. This is on the " Kirchhoger ", a hill part of the Höchfeldes.

994 The village is first mentioned. At this time the village belonged to the monastery of Seltz in Alsace. In 1481 Kirchberg was purchased by the city of Bern. During the Napoleonic occupation of the ground was then given away to the right seed owners who shared forests and common lands were transferred to private ownership. Factories were operated early in the 18th century in Kirchberg, the products anfertigten which were exported all over the world.

Population

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the population has more than tripled. On 31 December 2006, the community numbered 5'614 inhabitants (1 January 2001: 5'326, December 31, 2005: 5'526 ). Kirchberg has a connection to the motorway A1, however, lies in the field of the neighboring community Rüdtligen- Alchenflüh.

Traffic

Kirchberg is located on the motorway Bern - Zurich and on the railway line Burgdorf - Solothurn ( Bahnhof Kirchberg Kirchberg BE ).

Sports hall Grossmatt

Of the approximately 905 acre community area 135 ha settlement area, 458 ha of agricultural land and about 301 hectares of forest.
