Geographical location

The community Kirchham in the southern district of Passau is located at the middle of the creek Kößlarner Pockinger Heath, a fertile plain, which extends to the nearby Inn. History

Memorial

Railway

Former Bundeswehr location

The community was Kirchham location of the Army of the Bundeswehr. The Rottalblick barracks was built in the early 1960s. There armored units were mostly stationed. The site was abandoned in 2003.

In 1989, when the Iron Curtain fell and the East opened its borders, the barracks served as a refugee and refugee camp for GDR citizens who came via Hungary and Austria to West Germany. Due to the eastern location and close to the Austrian border, the Bundeswehr location was the first stop for many people and was therefore highly frequented.

On the grounds of the former military training area now is a solar park, which was created in collaboration with the municipality of Bad Fussing and the city Pocking.
