The village belonged in the Middle Ages to the rich places. It had the largest Waidanbaugebiet the region and seven Waidmühlen. The monastery and a Good also contributed to the prosperity of the Kirchheimer.

Village Church

The church dedicated to the Saint Lawrence existed since 1357th It was constructed to replace an earlier building. Inside the sandstone relief, which was created 1400-1440 and is the Mount of Olives, well worth seeing. The tower was built at the same time. The relief probably consists of parts of the original church and was later attached at its present location. In 1685, the baroque Tauftisch was donated with a carved figure group ( Baptism of Jesus) by the brothers Beyer from Arnstadt. The ceiling painting from 1898 is a work of the painter Ernst Liebermann. Since 1921, new bells in the tower. The sacristy was 1989, a reorganization, 1993, a radio-controlled clock tower and a new dial was installed. Further restoration work began 1996. 2006 the baptismal font was restored and presented at the exhibition "War baptisms in Central Germany " in Magdeburg Cathedral to the public.

Since the church was threatened by dry rot and other rehabilitation works were urgently necessary, the church is lavishly restored since the fall of 2010 under the supervision of the architect Peter Tandler from Erfurt. The nave was given a new patch with the concomitant still preserved historic brick tiles. The previously locked galleries are accessible again, the foundations under the supports were renewed and built a static effective wooden disc and connected to the western gable. On the south side of the church (see picture) was part of the wall surface plastered, so that you can already have an idea now how the church can look like. The entrance doors and the main entrance can be used again. For Fall / Winter 2011 the church roof was given a new slate roofing, a solemn festival button was committed on November 18, 2011.
