Kirchstetten

Kirchstetten is a market town in the district of Sankt Pölten- Land in Lower Austria with 2044 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography

Kirchstetten is in the Most district in Lower Austria. The area of ​​the municipality covers 17.76 square kilometers, 22.28 percent of the area is forested.

History

In ancient times, the area was part of the province of Noricum. Around 450 of the Huns hill, a mound, on which there was probably a weir was built. 1130 " Chirichstetten " was first mentioned in documents as an independent parish. In 1374 it came to the elimination of the parish church of Totzenbach Stetten. 1529 was the destruction of the castle Kirchstetten by the Turks. 1622 came to the parish church Stetten Ollersbach. In 1850 the municipalities Kirchstetten and Totzenbach which were united in 1971 to the municipality Kirchstetten emerged. 1999 Kirchstetten got back the market right which it had been since the 14th century until the first war against the Turks.

The poet Josef Weinheber ( property in today's Josef- Weinheber Street) and the Anglo-American poet WH Auden ( behind wooden 6) have chosen Kirchstetten their second home and final resting place. The actor Roland Düringer lived in Kirchstetten, he named his first solo cabaret behind wooden eight, 20 years accounting, the theatrical version behind wooden 8, 1998 was the most visited domestic film in Austria.

According to the results of the 2001 census, there were 1814 inhabitants. In 1991, the municipality had 1617 inhabitants, 1981 and 1451 in 1971, 1358 inhabitants.
