Demographics

Development project

The Austrian Development Cooperation ( ADC) supports since the year 1997, the water supply and disposal areas located on the embattled northern Uganda town. First, the original water supply system of the city was restored, and started to build a self-supporting structure for the operation and management. Then the connection of several public facilities outside the city center (hospital, schools, boarding schools ) has been promoted to this water supply system. Later we started to improve the sanitation of the residents to the principles of Ecological Sanitation ( EcoSan ). As part of the ongoing phase the water supply of the city is to be stabilized primarily by supporting the operation in the Operations & Maintenance area. Furthermore, the implementation of a photovoltaic pumping system to ensure a constant water supply for the population of Kitgum is provided, which is independent of the security situation in northern Uganda possible and to eliminate the dependence of supply the city with electricity and / or diesel for generators and pumps helps.
