Knattspyrnudeild UMFG

UMF Grindavíkur ( long: Ungmennafélag Grindavíkur ) is an Icelandic sports club from the port city Grindavík.

Currently, the association is composed of three departments. In addition to judo and basketball, the club also runs a football department that in the second Icelandic League, 1 deild karla plays under the name Knattspyrnudeild UMFG.

History

The football section was founded in 1963 celebrated their biggest success in 1994. Firstly, the national cup final was reached, which was, however, lost 0-2 against KR Reykjavík. On the other hand one promotion to the first division, which one belongs ever since. In the 2003 / 04 season, they took part in the qualification for the UEFA Cup, but failed with 1:1 and 1:2 at FC Kärnten. In the 2006 season, the first-time relegation from the Premier League, where they returned to the second division for the 2008 season after one year followed. 2012 was followed by the re descent. In 2005 graduated from the German Michael Zeyer there some games.
